Vepco Retiree Was World War II Navy Veteran

Milton Dale (Doc) Craft, age 89, of 1801 Richmond Street, Selma, Virginia, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his residence.

He was born December 12, 1925 in Selma to the late Ledford Linwood Craft, Sr. and Ruth E. Dunbar Craft.

During World War II, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of operations aboard a destroyer.

He retired from Dominion Resources (VEPCO) after thirty-seven years as an electrician.

He was a member of the Selma Church of the Brethren, the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033, and a past member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge B.P.O.E., the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge, and the Virginia Bowhunters Association.

He was a former Little League Coach, and as a younger man, enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his son, Alan Dale.

He was an avid reader his entire life, and particularly enjoyed history. He was a backyard gardener and took pride in his heirloom tomatoes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Marie Martin Craft in 2007, and a brother, Ledford L. Craft, Jr.

He is survived by a daughter, Denise C. Wilbern and husband, Tom of Smithfield; a son, Alan Dale Craft and wife, Sherry of Selma; one brother, John H. "Jack" Craft and wife, Mary Lee of Yorktown; three grandchildren, Joshua S. Craft and wife, Krista of Valley Ridge, Covington, Katie Brown and husband, Keith of Collierstown Rd, Clifton Forge, and Benjamin Craft and wife, Mary of Charlotte, NC; eight great grandchildren, Calvin Craft, Gabriel Craft, Maddi Brown, Carson Brown, Alli Brown, Emeri Brown, Bremmer Craft, and Cannon Craft; two step grandsons, Tyler Wilbern of Newport News and Travis Wilbern of Hampton; special cousins, Courtney Craft, Jim Oliver and Bobby Oliver; a host of nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Richard and Nancy Stogdale, Pat Brown, and Britney Holcomb; and special caregivers, Debbie Martin, Pat Shifflett, and Alice Faye Bocook.

The family would like to give special recognition to Mountain Regional Hospice and staff for their excellent and compassionate care, and to give a huge "Thank you" to Dr. Bassel Moughrabi and his staff.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Mike Warren officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFS Post 1033. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Craft, Ben Craft, Keith Brown, Courtney Craft, Richard Stogdale, Harvey Van Buren, Earl Anderson, Cletus Nicely and Junior Brackenridge.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
