Covington Native Was Retired Gala Industries Warehouse Operator

Donald Lee (Donnie) or (Van) Van Devender, age 66, of 409 Market Street, Iron Gate, Virginia, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Medical Center in Richmond.

He was born June 17, 1948 in Covington, Virginia, to the late Glen Van Devender, Sr. and Natley Frances Downey Van Devender.

He served with the United States Marines stationed in Japan, and the Army National Guard during active duty, and was a retired warehouse operator of Gala Industries in Eagle Rock.

He loved his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Glenn Van Devender; a brother, and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Reid Van Devender of Iron Gate; two daughters, Sherry McGrady and husband, David of Moseley, and Robin Austin and husband, Dwayne of Petersburg; four sisters; one brother; three grandchildren, Michael McGrady and wife, Jordan, Tristan McGrady and Harley Shreck; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Doug Moore officiating.

Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
