Former Industrial Rayon Plant Employee Was Longtime Covington Baptist Church Member

Frenchie Novella Wood Snead, 98, of 103 Sherry May Street, Covington, Virginia, passed away at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Low Moor on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.

Frenchie is predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Roy W. Snead; parents, Howard Book and Eva Cole Wood; sisters, Gladys Wood Key and Catherine Wood Hylton; brothers, Everett Glen Wood, Howard Eugene Wood, and Emmett Winston Wood.

Surviving is one sister, Mabel Wood Daughtery of Covington, and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Wood of Covington, and Mary Wood of Kaiser, WV; her sons, William H. (Dick) Snead and wife, Anne of Millbrook, AL., and Dr. Ronald W. Snead of Richmond; grandchildren, Dorothy J. McCullough, William H. Snead Jr.; Krisit M. Jeffers, B. Kevin Mills; great-grandchildren, Susan R. Rollins, Adam C. Mitcham, Blake Jeffers, Harris Jeffers, and Mae Jeffers; special friends, Jane and John Weaver, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frenchie was born in Fordwick, Virginia, on April 14, 1916. She graduated from Covington High School in 1934. She enjoyed working in her church; gardening, and was a caregiver within the family and to many others outside the family. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining family and friends in her home.

She was an employee of the former Industrial Rayon Corporation plant in Covington and was a longtime member of the Covington Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Dr. Ted W. Fuson officiating.

Entombment will be made in the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive their friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at Arritt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Snead's name to the Covington Baptist Church, 280 W. Riverside Street, Covington, VA 24426.
