Hot Springs Native Was Active Mallow Presbyterian Church Member, Retired Tax Service Owner

Patricia Deaner Whitehead, 78, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, March 27, 2015, in Lewis GaleĞAlleghany Hospital at Low Moor.

Mrs. Whitehead was born July 18, 1936, in Hot Springs, a daughter of the late Rodney and Mamie Cauley Deaner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Whitehead, in 2010, her daughter, Terry Shelton, in 2006, two sisters, Dot Dodson and Irene Shifflett and two brothers, Johnny Deaner and Wink Deaner.

Pat was an active member of Mallow Presbyterian Church and of Circle #3 of the church. She was a former President of the Presbyterian Women for the Montgomery Presbytery.

Pat received an Honorary Life membership from Mallow Presbyterian Church and also McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She was the retired owner of Pat's Tax Service, where she had served many area residents in filing taxes over the past 26 years.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with her loved ones.

In all of her endeavors, she was generous with her time and left a lasting impression. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lynn Whitehead, of Covington; four granddaughters, Emily Lolandes and her husband, Omar, of Stuarts Draft; Erica Zafiris and her husband, George, of Wilmington, NC; Alison Pillow and her husband, Jonathan, of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and Kelly Shook and her husband, R. D., of Roanoke; three great grandchildren, Oliver Lolandes, Luca Lolandes and Reese Zafiris; six sisters-in-law, Dolly Whitehead, Mary Whitehead, Louise Whitehead, Pat Whitehead, Ethel Whitehead and Sue Deaner; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

The funeral service will be held Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

Following the service the family will receive friends at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Jerry and Lynn Whitehead at 2907 Winterberry Avenue in Valley Ridge.

The family suggests that donations in Pat's name be made to the Mallow Presbyterian Church, 2004 Mallow Road, Covington, VA 24426 or to the Selma Fire Department, 1106 Richmond St., Selma, VA 24474.
