Former C&O Nurse Was Longtime Methodist Church Member

Mrs. Mary Sue McCallister Peters, age 84, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at her residence in the arms of her loving husband of sixty-three years, Alvin Peters.

Even though heaven gained an angel, the family lost its strength and earthly anchor.

Mrs. Peters was born November 5, 1930 in Hot Springs, the daughter of the late Frank R. McCallister and Bessie Andrews McCallister.

She was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1948 and the C&O School of Nursing in 1951.

Mrs. Peters was employed as a nurse by the former C&O Hospital for fifteen years.

She was a lifetime member of Emory United Methodist Church. Mrs. Peters moved to Henrico County in 1975 where she was employed by the Henrico County School System and was a member of Skipworth United Methodist Church in Richmond for thirty-two years.

She leaves behind a devoted husband, Alvin Peters; a son, Kim Daniel Peters of Richmond; a daughter, Mary Kay Jensen of Garner, NC; three grandchildren, Samantha Peters of LaPlace, LA, Kayla Wright of Garner, NC, and Christie Wright of Garner, NC.

In addition to her parents, Frank R. and Bessie Andrews McCallister, Mrs. Peters was preceded in death by a sister, Jane McCallister Beresford; a daughter, Cindy Suzanne Peters; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Leanne Peters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Emory United Methodist Church with Pastor Vivian Utz officiating. Interment will follow in Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kim Daniel Peters, Mike McFarland, Eddie Smith, Paul Marian, Charlie Green, Travis Botkins, David Chestnut and Jeff Marian. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m.. until service time at Emory United Methodist Church.

The family suggests that memorial tributes be made to Emory United Methodist Church Building Fund, C/O Nancy Helmintoller, 215 Sycamore Bend Lane, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
