Alleghany County Native Was Homemaker, Former First Christian Church Member

Mrs. Shirley Fisher Rogers, age 76, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Donald Hubert Rogers.

Mrs. Rogers was born September 18, 1938 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Marshall Brown "Mike" Fisher and Esther "Becky" Gaines.

A lifetime resident of this community, she was a homemaker and loved to garden and cook.

Shirley was a former member of First Christian Church and had an immense faith in God. She loved her family especially her children and grandchildren, who were the highlight of her life.

Shirley was a sweet and caring person who touched the lives of everyone she met.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by a son, Gerald W. Rogers and wife, Peggy; a daughter, Cheryl Walton and husband, Darrell; a daughter-in-law, Mary Rogers; five grandchildren, Greg Rogers, Jr. and wife, Felicia; Natomia Spring Tapia and husband, Mauricio; Coty Walton; Nikki Walton and Jake Walton; four great grandchildren, Hailey Kimberlin, Cameron Rogers, Lily Tapia and Hannah Tapia; four brothers, Alfred Lewis Fisher and wife, Mary of Louisville, KY, Michael Eugene Fisher and wife, Christine of Low Moor, Gary Alvin Fisher and wife, Barbara of Covington, and Roger Dale Tucker of Covington; one sister, Peggy Ruble and husband, Larry of Brentwood; a number of nieces and nephews; and her favorite granddog, Rusty.

In addition to her parents, Marshall and Esther Gaines and her husband of fifty eight years Donald Rogers, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen Rogers, Sr.; two brothers, Marshall Wayne Fisher and William Henry Fisher; one sister, Virginia Fisher "Peepsie" Tingler; and a niece, Stephanie Fisher. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Fisher and Rev. William Gram officiating. Interment will follow in Jones Cemetery.

Pallbearers will P.J. Smith, Darrell Walton, Ray Rodgers, Dewey May, Thomas May and Arnold Newcomer. Alternate pallbearers will be Walter Adams and Paul Ryder. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA, 24422 or Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P. O. Box N, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
