U. S. Army Veteran Was Retired Construction Worker

Mr. Rupert Blair (Buzzy) O_Conner, Jr., age 66, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Salem.

Mr. O'Conner was born May 9, 1948 in Covington, the son of the late Rupert Blair O'Conner and Brownie Mines O'Conner.

A lifetime resident of this community, he served his country as a member of the United States Army stationed in Germany.

Buzzy was employed in the construction field before his retirement.

He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. O'Conner is survived by one son, Shawn P. O'Conner and wife, Sharon of Covington; the love of his life, Bea Benadine; two step grandchildren; a brother, Allen Wayne O'Conner and wife, Brenda of Newnan, GA; five sisters, Darlene O'Conner Hamilton and husband, Bob of Covington, Janet O'Conner Eppard and husband, Franklin of Charlottesville, Judy Morgan and husband, Lonnie of Covington, Cora O'Conner London of Cleveland, GA, and Alice O'Conner Davis of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Hoke Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jesse O'Conner, Tommy O'Conner, Jeff Davis, Kelly Davis, Tim Morgan, and Ben Harrell.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Loving Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
