Former Construction Foreman Dies At Age 81

Leonard Haden Persinger, 81, of 6800 Bens Run Road, Covington, Virginia, died, Friday May 1, 2015.

He was born April 17, 1934 in Alleghany County, the son of the late William Henry Persinger and Mamie Tucker Persinger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Clara Myers, and one brother, Lonnie Persinger.

Mr. Persinger retired in 1992 after 35 years as a laborer foreman with the Bodell Construction Company.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years Bertie Givens Persinger, one daughter Winnie West of Roanoke, one son, Doug Persinger and wife, Angie of Covington, five grandchildren: Bryan Persinger and wife, Sarah, Stephanie Brookman and husband, Rex, Ricky Chittum, and Trina Wolfe and husband, Mark, and Olivia Smith, all of Covington; 6 great grandchildren; three sisters, Jane Beadles of Roanoke, Lorine Perkins of Roanoke, and Connie Fralin of Utah, two brothers, David Persinger and wife, Rachel and Walter Persinger, both of Covington; one sister, in law Laura Booze and husband, John of Clifton Forge, two brothers-in-law, Robert Givens and Lloyd Givens and wife, Phyllis both of Covington; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a special thanks to the caregivers Gail Honaker and Myra Persinger and Mt. Regional Hospice.

The funeral service will be held May 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown officiating.

The interment will be held at Lone Star Cemetery with graveside rites.

The Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests any memorial donations be made in Mr. Persinger's name to the Mt. Regional Hospice at P. O. Box 637 Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
