Obituary for Doris (Dot) McCoy Downey Byer Doris (Dot) McCoy Downey Byer
Worked With H. O. Canfield And Botetourt County Schools

Doris (Dot) McCoy Downey Byer, age 77, of 289 Bridge Street (Glen Wilton), Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was born April 9, 1938 in Lick Run, Virginia to the late Larry and Elsie Kern McCoy of Glen Wilton.

She worked at H.O. Canfield and retired as a Botetourt County Public Schools bus driver after 17 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ashton Downey, and her second husband, Earnest "Foots" Byer.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald "Coy" McCoy.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, E. A. Downey and wife, Debbie of Salem, and Danny Byer of Glen Wilton; her brother, Larry "Pete" McCoy and wife, Lillian; three brothers-in-law, Raymond Downey and wife, Gladys, Ryland Byer, and Frank Byer; two granddaughters, Renea Downey Guill and husband, Shane, and Melissa Downey Brads and husband, Ryan; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; one precious great granddaughter, M'Kenzie Brads; two childhood friends, Lorain Norvell of Botetourt Road and Ella Mae Blanks of Lynchburg; two special caregivers, Meghan Bradley and Jackie Parris, of whom she was very fond; and her dog, Abigail.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Active pallbearers will be Murray F. "Buddy" Buchanan, Jerry Dean Caldwell, Johnny Kern, Sonny Craft, Chris Fisher, and Robbie Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Lipes, Buddy Reynolds and Corky Kumm. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
