Retired FNB Bank Teller Was Teacher's Aide, Former Leggett Employee

Doris Chittum Humphries Nicely, age 88, of 12549 Percival Street, Chester, Virginia, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at her residence.

She was born August 24, 1926 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, to the late Russell and Thelma Miller Chittum.

She was a retired bank teller for the former First National Bank of Clifton Forge, was a teacher's aide for a number of years, and worked for Leggett Department Store in Clifton Forge.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond, and a former member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church. She was a member of the Clifton Forge High School Alumni Association, the Red Hat Society of Clifton Forge, and the First Born Girls Social Club.

She was a Virginia Tech fan and enjoyed square dancing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Virgil Humphries and second husband, Stanley Nicely, Sr.; a daughter, Darlene Spangler; a sister, Retha Scialoia; and a stepson, Michael Lee Nicely.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Blanks of Chester; a son, Wayne Humphries and wife, Cynthia of Clifton Forge; a step-son, Stanley Nicely, Jr. and wife, Regina of Clifton Forge; five grandchildren, Michael Blanks and wife, Becca, Kevin Blanks and wife, Diana, Lance Humphries and wife, Lynez, Amber Bunch, and Sherman Spangler; eight great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Cotton Hylton and family, and Carol and Ricky Martin and family.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Mr. Bill Vickers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Lance Humphries, Sherman Spangler, Kevin Blanks, Michael Blanks, Shawn Rakes and Christian Bunch. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Rakes, Ricky Martin, Charlie Hylton, Darius Hylton, Steve Snead, Barry Atkins and Scott Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
