Obituary for Leonard Allen (Squack) Smith Leonard Allen (Squack) Smith
Covington Native Was Certified Machinist, H. O. Canfield Retiree

Leonard Allen (Squack) Smith, 72, of 5925 Frontier Lane died Saturday, May 23, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Smith was born August 13, 1942, in Covington, Virginia, a son of the late Owen A. Smith and Lucy Markham Smith Foster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Lee Smith and Robbie Lynn Smith, and one sister, Sherry Wiseman.

He had retired from H. O. Canfield, Inc. as a certified machinist after 46 years with the company.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Virginia Smith Smith, of Covington; two sons, Leonard Allen Smith, Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Covington and Steven W. Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Max Meadows; a step-son, Jody W. Rock, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Covington; a step-daughter, Martha Carol Leonard and her husband, William of Lexington, NC; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom Smith and his wife, Diane, of Covington; four sisters, Evelyn Hite of Warrenton, Penny Wells and her husband, Robert, of Covington, and Pam Evans and her husband, Wayne, of Covington, and Sue Ellen Smith of Norfolk; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Smith's name be made to the Hoke's Chapel Cemetery Fund or to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422
