Retired Nurse Was West Virginia Native

Gayla Delite Gillespie Callahan Windle, age 71, of 802 Veterans Avenue, Covington, Virginia, and formerly of 608 Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at The Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clifton Forge.

She was born March 5, 1944 in Affinity, West Virginia, to the late Gathern Victor and Reba June Smith Gillespie.

She was a retired registered nurse and homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Bennett, a son, Jesse Callahan, and a brother-in-law, Les Matheny.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Windle of Covington; a son, Jake Edward Callahan and girlfriend, Crystal Broughman; her step children, Jonathan Windle and wife, Carissa of West Virginia, Eileen Dziok of Clifton Forge, Stephanie Spiller and husband, Yancy of Roanoke, Mark Windle and wife, Lorrie of Pulaski, and Dale Windle of Roanoke; two sisters, Getitia Brown and husband, Joseph of Ohio, and Shirley Gillespie Hawks and husband, Paul of North Carolina; a brother, Gathern Gillespie and wife, Nell of Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Amber, Paige, A.J., Saphuire, Emy, Benjamin, Joseph, Eric and Mercedes; seven step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no formal services held.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Gayla's name to Kathie Clark, 713 Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422 for the purpose of construction of dog houses for dogs without shelter, or to Pam Mullins Tackett, P. O. Box 65, Selma, Virginia 24474 for the purpose of spaying and neutering feral cats at St. Francis of Assisi in Roanoke.
