Obituary for Clyde Howard Landis, Sr. Clyde Howard Landis, Sr.
Covington Native Was Former Westvaco Electrician, Active Mason

Mr. Clyde Howard Landis, Sr., age 89, died Friday, June 26, 2015, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Sadie Sovereen Landis.

Mr. Landis was born November 25, 1925, in Covington, the son of the late Joseph Howard Landis and Minnie Stoup Landis.

A lifetime member of this community, he was employed as an electrician by Westvaco.

Clyde was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for over fifty years, a former elder, deacon, and lay minister.

Mr. Landis was also a former Scoutmaster of Troop 31. He was a member and past master of Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM. He was also a past high priest of the Covington Royal Arch Chapter No. 18, where he served as District Deputy Grand High Priest in 2006-2007. He was also a member of Alleghany Commandry No. 23.

In addition to his wife of 69 years, Sadie Sovereen Landis, Mr. Landis is survived by his son, Clyde H. Landis Jr. of Covington; a sister, Evelyn Agnor of Tampa, Fl; and a number of nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joseph Howard and Minnie Stoup Landis, Mr. Landis was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Grimes Jr., William "Bill" Keyser, William "Bill" Dressler Jr., Robert Agnor, Carl W. Dressler Jr., Joe Wimer, Harold "Bucky" Mottern, and Larry Washburn. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
