Former Co-Owner, Secretary Of Miller Studio Was Avid Gardener

Mrs. Jessie Smith Miller, age 96, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Covington, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Salem.

She was the wife of the late Ernest Irving Miller.

Mrs. Miller was born April 4, 1919 in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late Jesse Robert Smith and Susan Aliff Smith.

She was co-owner/secretary at Miller Studio for over 30 years.

Mrs. Miller was a avid gardener and loved growing flowers.

She was a Christian woman who loved the Lord and her family.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Joyce M. Layne; granddaughter, Christy L. Welch and husband, Rodney and granddaughter, Cheryl Thompson; grandson, David E. Layne and wife, Dawn; great grandchildren, Jessica Morris, Brittney Layne and Cory Griffin; great-great grandchildren, Caitlin Morris, Alyshia Campbell, Nick Campbell and Kyler Layne; and a brother, Sonny Smith.

In addition to her parents, Jesse Robert Smith and Susan Aliff Smith, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine M. Thompson; brothers, John R. Smith and William "Homer" Smith; and sisters, Edna King, Helen Owens, Virginia Parker and Mary Smith.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Billy Price officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Loving Funeral Home.
