Obituary for George Alton Forbes, Sr. George Alton Forbes, Sr.
Heavy Equipment Operator Was Clifton Forge Resident

George Alton Forbes, Sr., age 68, of 312 Alleghany Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, and formerly of Covington, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born July 12, 1947 in Covington to the late Fred Fenton Forbes, Sr. and Garnette Davis Forbes.

He was a heavy equipment operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Alton "Boo" Forbes, Jr.; a brother, Robert S. Forbes; and two sisters, Mary Jane Mitchell and Linda D. Forbes.

He is survived by estranged wife, Joyce Hoke Forbes of Low Moor; a daughter, Nina Michelle Forbes of Covington; his companion, Angela E. Paxton of Clifton Forge; a brother, Fred Fenton Forbes, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Covington; a granddaughter, Olivia Brooke Price of Covington; a cousin, Paul "Lukie" Craft of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews; and a four legged companion, "Shorty".

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Nathaniel Lyles officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Nina Forbes, 448 W. Park Street, Covington, VA.
