Samuel (Sam) Luther Stinnett, 94, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Wednesday August 12, 2015 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born September 1, 1920, in Buchanan, he was a son of the late Robert Luther Stinnett and Hattie Noffsinger Stinnett.

He was retired from Burlington Industries after 43 years.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Pryor Stinnett and his brothers, James Judson Stinnett, Charles Julian Stinnett; and a sister, Dorothy Stinnett Harris.

Surviving are his children, Wanda Pope and Garland Pryor; grandchildren, Adam Pryor, Todd and Russ Pope; great-granddaughter, Georgia Pope; nephew, Judson Stinnett, and numerous nieces and nephews who knew Uncle Sam as their Stinnett patriarch.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Art Brumit officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
