Obituary for Mildred Key Crawford Mildred Key Crawford
Longtime Hairdresser Retired From Alleghany Apparel

Mildred Key Crawford, 95, of 731 N. Augusta Street, Covington, Virginia, died, Tuesday September 1, 2015, at her residence.

She was born June 27, 1920, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Austin and Callie Croft Key.

Mrs. Crawford graduated from Mayfair Beauty School in Roanoke and worked for a number of years in Covington as a Cosmetologist.

She retired from the former Alleghany Apparel, Inc.

Mrs. Crawford was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred B. "Jake" Crawford, in 2014, and also by eight sisters and brothers.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Doug Arrington of Covington, Tammy and Jerry Ferris, and Emmy and Dean Baker, all of Blue Ridge; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Ruth Crawford, of Covington; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; four sisters, Judy Dickinson and husband, Boots, of Forest, Pat Claytor, Mary M. Key and Helen Arrington and her husband, Mack, all of Bedford; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bo and Gloria Key, Bob and Kay Key, and Bunny and Ruby Key, all of Bedford; a number of nieces and nephews, her "special daughter," Ruth Crawford of Covington, and her special caregiver, Jenny Canterbury, of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mike Fleenor and the Rev. Nathan Miller.

The interment will be made at 1:00 p.m. in the Suck Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at Bedford. The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
