Radio, TV, Computer Repairman Worked With Highland Computers, Industrial Rayon Corporation

Alvie William (Pete) Thompson, 89, of 913 Dunbrack Road, Covington, Virginia, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at his residence.

He was born November 2, 1925 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Elmer Howard and Ida Mae Troxell Thompson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by four brothers.

Mr. Thompson repaired radios in his earlier years and later he worked for the late Buck Arritt repairing TVs.

Pete was employed by the former Industrial Rayon Corporation until it closed.

When his grandson David went to college he became interested in computers. He worked part time repairing printers for MeadWestvaco. He helped his son, Bill and grandchildren at Highland Computers for number of years.

He enjoyed Go Cart Racing at the Callaghan track in the early 1960s.

He was a Charter Member of Dunlap Rescue Squad and he was a man whp loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Margie Smith Thompson of Covington; two sons, William "Bill" and his wife, Mary Wilson Thompson of Clifton Forg,e and Gary and his wife, Frances Wilson Thompson of Covington; six grandchildren, David Thompson and wife, Tammy; Cherie Austin and husband, David; Marisa Reed and husband, Darren; Renee McCoy and husband, Stuart; Matthew Thompson and wife, Sally and Lisa Bryant. 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Rosemary Bryant and Cristle Alfred of Florida and Beth Johnson of Richmond; cousins including, Reba Troxell Rapp of Covington, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dean Bowser officiating. The interment will follow in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive their friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Arritt Funeral Home.
