Newport News Native Was Former Clifton Forge Resident

Jessica Lynn Shorter Lutz, age 60, of Trinity Mission Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and formerly of Clifton Forge, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Trinity Mission.

She was born July 23, 1955 in Newport News, Virginia, to Margaret Grady Shorter Hiner and the late Ernest L. Shorter.

She was an attendant at the Pilot Gas Station in Daleville, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Lutz.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret Hiner and husband Jay Hiner, Sr. of Glen Wilton; four daughters, Christina Lutz and fiance, Henry Bayne of Staunton, Amanda Kishpaugh and husband, Lonnie of Houston, TX, Cora Smith and fiance, Frank Dunbar of Clifton Forge, and Cassie Lutz and fiance, James Hughes of Rocky Mount; four sons, David Lutz and wife, Jennifer of Ohio, Marcus Smith of Glen Wilton, Jacob Lutz of Chicago, and Nathan Lutz of Pocahontas; a brother, Ernest "Buddy" Shorter and wife, Mary of Iron Gate; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Iron Gate Community Cemetery, Iron Gate with Reverend Roger Bush officiating.

Interment will immediately follow. There will be no formal visitation. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.
