Obituary for Alan Wayne McFarland Alan Wayne McFarland
Radford University Grad Also Atended Virginia State Police Academy

Alan Wayne McFarland, 62, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.

Mr. McFarland was born July 24, 1953 in Bath County, a son of Elsie Neal McFarland, of Covington, and the late John G. McFarland.

A lifetime resident of this area, he was a 1971 graduate of Covington High School. He graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Finance. Mr. McFarland was also a graduate of the Virginia State Police Academy.

He worked for the Phoenix Trucking Company in Georgetown, Kentucky, for a number of years as a long distance truck driver.

He was an avid Virginia Tech fan. Mr. McFarland was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to his mother, Mr. McFarland is survived by his daughter, Kate Elizabeth McFarland of Glen Allen, VA; two brothers, Kenneth E. McFarland and wife, Sharon, of Covington, and John Michael McFarland and wife, Nancy, of Natural Well; three nieces, Mary Beth Jerman, Jenna McFarland and Morgan McFarland; and several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 in the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Urban officiating.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation.
