Obituary for Carolyn Jean Honts Nicely Carolyn Jean Honts Nicely
Retired Alleghany Senior Citizens Director Was Iron Gate United Methodist Church Member

Carolyn Jean Honts Nicely, age 66, of 1710 Main Street, Clifton Woods Apartments, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

She was born October 5, 1949 in Clifton Forge to the late Floyd Honts, Sr. and Cora Mae Cummings Honts.

She was a member of Iron Gate United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the United Methodist Women.

She was a member of Appalfolks of America Association, and taught the STARS Program at Appalfolks. She also taught Heart Start Kindergarten and was a retired director of the Senior Citizens in Alleghany County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Edward Nicely.

She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Goodwin Snead and husband,, Timothy of Covington; a son, Derrick Nicely and wife, Kimberly of Goshen; a step daughter, Donna Faye Nicely of Iron Gate; three brothers, Floyd Honts, Jr. and wife, Emily of Hilton Head, SC, Wayne Honts and wife, JoAnne of Valley Ridge, Covington, and Eddie Honts and wife, Gayle of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Kristen Snead and Heather Snead; a step grandson, Zane Nicely; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m at Iron Gate United Methodist Church with Reverend William Bearden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Blue Ridge Chapter, 1 Morton Dr, Suite 106, Charlottesville, VA 22903, or to the Iron Gate United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 190, Iron Gate, VA 24448.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.
