Obituary for Burton Hornbarger Smith Burton Hornbarger Smith
U. S. P. S. Retiree Also Worked With The Homestead

Burton Hornbarger Smith, 92, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Friday, October 16, 2015 at The Springs Nursing Center.

He was born October 18, 1922 in Hot Springs, the son of the late Wallace Robert Smith and Esther Levere Lovell Robertson Smith.

Burton was retired from the United States Postal Service, then retired from the Virginia Hot Springs Company as a carpenter and electrician.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in China during World War II.

Burton was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his work shop and making many crafts. He graduated from Valley High School.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita Collins Smith, of Hot Springs; two children, Wayne Smith and wife, Frances of Troutville, Va., Randy Smith and wife, Della of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, Jennifer Haddock, Grayson Smith and Sara Smith; a brother, Jimmie Smith of Christiansburg, Va.; and sister, Geneieve Smith Link of Newport, Va.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Smith and half-sister, Nancy S. Black.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Ashwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Walter B. Failes officiating and Pastor Viv Utz assisting.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Rescue Squad or Mountain Regional Hospice.
