Obituary for Delilah Helms Ervin Delilah Helms Ervin
Former Nursing Assistant Was Craig County Native

Mrs. Delilah Helms Ervin, age 97, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the Brian Center ĞAlleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Cecil Maxel Ervin, who preceded her in death in 1990.

Mrs. Ervin was born March 15, 1918 in Craig County, the daughter of the late William Thomas Helms and Celia Persinger Helms.

A member of this community since 1935, she was employed as a nursing assistant before her retirement.

Delilah was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the Littlepage Bible Class and an Honorary Life member of the Women of the Church. Most of all, she enjoyed cooking for her family, being with friends, and praying faithfully.

Mrs. Ervin is survived by two daughters, Brenda E. Linkenhoker and husband, Paul of Covington and Teresa E. Wulff and husband, Allan of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Rebecca Gudgeon and husband, Michael, Sara Nicely and husband, Stephen, Nathaniel Wulff, and Zoe Wulff; four great grandchildren, Andrew Gudgeon, Sophie Gudgeon, Olivia Nicely and Amelia Nicely; three sisters, Annabelle H. Dew and husband, Norman of Iron Gate, Dorothy H. Nicely of Clifton Forge and Audrey H. Nicely of Clifton Forge; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, William Thomas and Celia Thomas Helms, and her husband, Cecil Maxel Ervin, Mrs. Ervin was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Helms, Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2015 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
