Obituary for Lila Swope Armentrout Lila Swope Armentrout
South Covington United Methodist Church Charter Member Was Longtime VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Supporter

Lila Swope Armentrout, 90, of 1923 South Rugby Street, Covington, Virginia, entered into Heaven from her residence and was given her wings Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

Mrs. Armentrout was born May 25, 1925, at Dayton in Rockingham County, a daughter of the late John M. and Lottie Jackson Swope.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first Husband, John Salyers, in 1967, and also by her second Husband, Buford Armentrout, in 2012.

She was a charter member of the South Covington United Methodist Church, where she served as director of the Food Pantry, member of the United Methodist Women and in the choir.

Lila was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was President of the Virginia VFW Auxiliary in 1995. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 911.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Alfier, and Chipper Lockridge of Covington; her grandson, Jonathan Morganti, and his wife, Stephanie, of North Canton, Ohio; three great grandchildren, Tyler Burch, Lucas Morganti and Sophia Morganti, all of North Canton, Ohio; one cousin, Roxie Harwell, of Nashville, TN; several nieces and nephews; her caregivers, Kay Hoke, Deb Peters and Betty Dudley, and a host of friends, especially, Janet Claytor.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 23, 2015, in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Cole officiating assisted by the Rev. Paul Harris. Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be members of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Post.

The family will receive their friends Sunday evening from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
