Obituary for Richard Louis Garrett Richard Louis Garrett
U. S. Army Veteran Was Retired Augusta Correctional Officer

Richard Louis Garrett, age 60, of 1323 Forester Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, December 13, 2015 at his residence.

He was born November 13, 1955 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Riley Nelson and Helen Virginia Phillips Garrett.

He served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Lee, and was a retired Correctional Officer for Augusta Correctional Facility in Craigsville.

He was a Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed hunting and cutting firewood, loved sweet tea, and always had a smile on his face.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Garrett and Ruby Hicks, and two brothers, Albert Garrett and Johnny Garrett.

He is survived by two daughters, Michele Nicely and husband, Phillip of Clifton Forge, and Nikki Garrett of Chesapeake; a son, Derek "Derwood" Garrett of Millboro; four sisters, Donna Ailstock and husband, Skip of Covington, Judy Paxton of Covington, Ellen Long of Rocky Mount, and Lucille Schultz and husband, Ronald of Covington; two brothers, Gary Garrett and wife, Vicki of Covington, and Woody Garrett and friend, Pat Kern of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Deb Washer officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
