Obituary for Helen Jamison Scott Helen Jamison Scott
102 Year-Old Covington Resident Was Very Active In Her Community

Helen Jamison Scott, wife of the late Thomas Stratton Scott, Sr., East Madison Street, Covington, Virginia, went to be with the LORD Sunday, December 20, 2015.

Mrs. Scott was born December 4, 1913 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Ira and Lelia Myrtle Jamison, and the step-daughter of the late Mary Bess Jamison, to whom she was a devoted "daughter".

Helen was very active in her community, having served as President of the PTA, the Covington Women's Club and volunteered with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. She was active in the Virginia Presbytery, serving on its Property Board and was Grand Matron of the Eastern Star, in which she served in numerous other capacities.

Helen and Stratton, who pre-deceased her in 2010, were devoted to each other, their family, their church and their friends, both young and old. Helen and Stratton were long-time and faithful members of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Happy Fellowship Sunday School Class. Believing in offering educational opportunities, Helen and Stratton established the Scott Scholarship Fund at McAllister Memorial which has helped numerous deserving students.

Helen was committed to a host of family and friends cultivated over her lifetime. She was a true "gatherer of people" and maintained close contact with scores of her beloved friends until her health failed following the celebration of her 100th birthday.

Helen was a strong leader and matriarch of her extended family, having lost her own mother when Helen was 13 years old when she accepted the role of family leader. Her calling in life was to love and help others and her spirit and endearing personality was reflected in her beautiful smile.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Thomas S. Scott, Jr. and wife, Suzanne Jack-Scott, and John Lewis Scott and wife, Fran; grandchildren, Thomas S. Scott, III and wife, Rebecca; Patrick H. Scott and wife, Elisabeth; Carol Louise Morris and husband, Chris Morris; and Carol's mother, Teresa H. Scott, and other grandchildren, John Lewis Scott, Jr. and wife, Jill, Watkins Lee Scott and wife, Naomi; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Logan and Naomi Scott. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Ray Jamison and wife, Liona; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A reception and luncheon will be held at 12 o'clock (noon) on Sunday, December 27, 2015, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 o'clock at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Fleenor officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers are various relatives, friends and fellow church members.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in memory of Helen to the Scott Scholarship Fund at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, VA 24426. Loving Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
