Augusta County Native Was Longtime Longdale United Methodist Church Member

Helen Josephine Spitler Clarke, age 84, of 6905 North Mountain Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Helen was born August 30, 1931 in Augusta County to the late Clara Harris Spitler and Hiawatha Spitler.

She was a homemaker her entire life. She was also a faithful member of the Longdale United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Clarke and a sister, Maddy Coleman.

She is survived by her sons, Bobbie Clarke and wife, Kathie and Ronald Clarke, both of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Geraldine Snyder and Zola Funderbury; three grandchildren, Randolph Clarke, Mindy Clarke and Megan Clinebell; five great grandchildren, Curtis Austin, Gabriel Clinebell, Kia Clark, Mia Clarke and Zoey Clinebell; also a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be David Jefferies, Darrel Nicely, Joe Hill, Greg Linkswiler, Brandon Nicely, and Hunter Conner.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of donations to the Longdale United Methodist Church, 121 Church Road, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
