Obituary for Robert Lee (Pops) Hamilton Robert Lee (Pops) Hamilton
U. S. Army Veteran Was Professional Golfer, Pentecostal Church Member

Mr. Robert Lee (Pops) Hamilton, age 75, of Covington, Virginia, died Monday, January 11, 2016, at his residence.

He was the husband of Juanita Darlene O'Conner Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton was born April 16, 1940 in Maryland, the son of Alice Hamilton and the late Robert Dillon Hamilton.

Robert served his country for two years as a member of the United States Army Airborne.

Upon coming to this area from Harrisonburg, he was employed as a salesman.

At the age of thirty, Robert became an avid pro amateur golfer, who shot a sixty-seven and played on numerous different courses and in several tournaments.

Mr. Hamilton was of the Pentecostal faith.

Robert was a member of the Staunton Moose Lodge, enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his family, especially later on in his life.

In addition to his mother, Alice Hamilton and his wife, Juanita Darlene O'Conner Hamilton, Mr. Hamilton is survived by two sons, David Hoke and Michael Hoke; eight daughters, Debbie Napier, Donna Hamilton, Robyn Hause, Sherry Kelly, Annette Hoke Waddill, Kathy Hoke Russ, Gail Mongold and Susan Eshbaugh; twenty-two grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Bootsie Nicholas; and two nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. C. J. Mize officiating, assisted by Rev. Wayne O'Conner.

Interment will follow in Hoke Chapel Cemetery.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Travis Driver, Kyle Whetzel, Cody Armentrout, and Kelley Davis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from noon until service time at Loving Funeral Home.
