Ettis Skeens Back, 77, of 4430 Midland Trail, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday morning, January 17, 2016, at her home.

Mrs. Back was born August 19, 1938, in Cleveland, Virginia, a daughter of the late Davis Stafford Skeens and Cora Breeding Skeens.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Back, Jr., in 2008; a brother, Wilson Skeens, a sister, Vivian Johnston and a brother-in-law, Don Turner. For many years, she and her husband were overŠthe-road co-drivers for ConAgra, Inc. out of Crozet until they retired in 1997. Surviving are her Daughter, Ellen Hatfield, and her husband, Todd, of Covington; her Son, Edward F. Back, III, and his wife, Connie, of Covington; three grandchildren, Amanda Arritt and her husband, Wesley, Ronnie Helmintoller, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, and Ross Helmintoller and his wife, Whitney, all of Covington; three great grandchildren, Graecyn Helmintoller, Addison Helmintoller and Sadie Helmintoller all of Covington; five sisters, Donnie Carter and her husband, Don, Mary Conner and her husband, Tommy, all of Natural Bridge, Jean Turner of Spring City, Belle Musick and her husband, Kermit, of Cleveland and Charlene Phillips and her husband, Cletus, of Lebanon; two brothers, Johnny Skeens and his wife, Maxie, of Cleveland and Guy Virgil Skeens and his wife, Linda, of Lebanon and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be R.J. Helmintoller, Ross Helmintoller, Popeye Helmintoller,, Mandy H. Arritt, Wesley Arritt, Don Carter, Tommy Conner, and Creigh Via. The family will receive their friends from 1:00 PM until service time at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at her residence, 4430 Midland Trail.
