Former Brookman Brothers Excavating Company Dies At Age 66

Robert Lewis (Buck) Brookman, 66, of 2906 Valley Ridge Road, Covington, Virginia, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, with his family around him after losing his battle with cancer.

Buck was born November 8, 1949 in New Castle, a son of the late Henry Lewis Brookman and Mary Katherine Hinkle Brookman.

He enjoyed being in his woodworking shop and was known for raising exotic birds, which he did for many years. Buck also loved his classic cars and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was a partner with his brother in Brookman Brothers Excavating Company for a number of years.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Pat Ruse Brookman of Covington; two sons, Robbie Brookman and his wife, Michelle, of Edgewater, MD, and Jeremy Brookman and his wife, Sammie, of Covington; his daughter, Lori Simpson, of Chesapeake Beach, MD; nine grandchildren, Brittany Brookman, Danielle Simpson, Jacob Brookman, Taylor Simpson, Nick Simpson, Sarah Brookman, Sammy Brookman, Alex Franson and Chloe Franson; his great granddaughter, Savannah Tucker; one Brother, Sherman Brookman, and his wife, Belva, of Covington; three sisters, Bettie Nida and Wanda Vermillion, both of Covington and Marcella Sue Wright of New Castle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and a special family friend, Marilyn Paxton Brookman of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon February 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Hubbard officiating assisted by the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck.

Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Brookman, Jeremy Brookman, Mike Brookman, Mike Carson, Larry "Mop" Campbell, Terry Nida, Frank Hepler, Wayne Bowen and Doug Simmons. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
