Ruth Jean Kent Bennington, 82, formerly of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

Jean was born August 12, 1933 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Kent.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kent "Ray" Bennington in 2014.

She was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was very active before her health declined.

Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Bob McCormack and Kathy and Jody Byers, all of Covington; her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Barbara Bennington of Covington; three grandchildren, Ryan McCormack and his wife, Sarah of Roanoke; Megan Rivero and her husband, James of Richmond and Hannah Jean Nester of Covington; two great grandchildren, Addison McCormack of Roanoke and Kellan McCormack of Roanoke; two sisters, Mildred Trent and Charlene Kelley and her husband, Harvey, all of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday February 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Urban officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Marshall.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at Granbery Memorial Methodist Church.

The interment will be private in Moorland Baptist Church Cemetery in North Garden, VA.

The family suggest that memorial donations in Mrs. Bennington's name may be made to the Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
