Dr. Thomas Warren Stewart, age 93, of 404 Woodland Road (Valley Ridge), Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem.

Dr. Stewart was born April 14, 1922 in Toronto, Canada, to the late Charles Harrad and Erie Martha Mason Stewart.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was an optometrist in the Alleghany Highlands, retiring after sixty years.

He is survived by his wife, Roxie Lee Downey of Covington; a step daughter, Melissa Fawley and husband, Lance of Bedford; and six step grandchildren, Hunter, Sam, Grace, Emma, Matt and Ben.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.
