Alleghany County Native Was World War II Veteran, Retired Westvaco Maintenance Supervisor

Graham Lewis Anderson, age 90, of 4100 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born November 25, 1925 in Alleghany County to the late Frank Martin and Mary Faye Fisher Anderson.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a retired maintenance supervisor for Westvaco Corporation, Covington.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and usher, was on the Building Committee and the Building and Grounds Committee, and was a deacon and a former Chairman of Deacons.

He was also a member of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Anderson, Frank Anderson and Carl Anderson, and two sisters, Della Patterson and Virginia Mays.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Clark Anderson of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Jennifer Owens and husband Frank of Glen Wilton, Eagle Rock, and Cindy Higgins of Clifton Forge; a son, Jeff Anderson and wife, Penny of Mansfield, GA; a sister, Mary Gladys Anderson Haynes of Clifton Forge; a brother, Earl Anderson and wife Marion of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Susan Keith, Dustin Higgins, Rusty Anderson and wife, Jamie, and Brad Anderson and wife, Alysia; three great grandchildren, A. J. Keith, Morgan Keith and Conner Graham Anderson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Corbin Anderson, Dale Anderson, Glenn Mays, Presley Patterson, David Bess, Ray Thacker, George Jenkins, Jr. and Richard Jenkins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Temple Baptist Church, 300 Stratton Street, Covington, VA 24426.
