Obituary for Donald Gene Nida Donald Gene Nida
U. S. Air Force Veteran Was Virginia National Guard Member; Retired From Covington School System As Maintenance Supervisor

Donald Gene Nida, 79, of 341 Horse Mountain View, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at Lewis Gale Alleghany in Low Moor.

He was born November 20, 1936 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Henry L. and Lillian Plymale Nida.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Nida.

Mr. Nida served his country with the United States Air Force and was a member of the Virginia National Guard for 26 years.

He retired in 1996 from the Covington School Board as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was an active member of Covington Ruritan Club and attended Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jeanie Mottern Nida of Covington; three daughters, Donna Plott and George Plott and Teressa Calvert and her husband, Barry, all of Covington; and Lisa Parker and her husband, Dean of Roanoke; six grandchildren, LeAnn Plott; Benjamin Plott; Ethan Calvert; Lindsey Parker, Kelsey Parker and Bailey Parker; a brother, Johnny Nida and his wife, Shirley of Covington; a sister, Anna Mae Ray of Covington ; a sister–in-law, Alvina Nida of Covington and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Price officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jeff Riley.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive their friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church on Sunday.
