Petersburg Vet Was Avid Fisherman, Active In His Community
Dr. Carl Drayton Bird Jr., 87, of Alleghany County, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
Dr. Bird practiced veterinary medicine for 30 years in Petersburg, Virginia.
He was an avid fisherman who loved the mountains he called home.
Dr. Bird was a member of Blue Key Alpha Zeta, Rotary, Ruritan, The American Veterinarian Medical Association, and The Virginia Veterinarian Medical Association.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Beth Blackburn Bird; sons, Retired Col. Carl Drayton Bird III, of Lexington, Va., and Darren Kyle Bird of Powhatan, Va.; daughters, Dr. Deidra Bird Kokel of Leesburg, Va., and Melody Bird James of Chester, Va.; sisters, Peggy B. Chafin of Christiansburg, and Ginger B. Barton of Salem, Va.; and eight grandchildren.
