Alleghany County Public Schools Nurse Also Worked With Alleghany Regional Hospital

Martha Christine Whiteside Persinger, age 68, of 2717 Vassar Street, Low Moor, Virginia, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was born January 1, 1948 in Lexington to the late Claude Alexander and Marguerite Lotts Whiteside.

She was a Registered Nurse for Alleghany County Public Schools and Alleghany Regional Hospital.

She was a member of Walton Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, David Lee Persinger of Low Moor; a daughter, Kim Carabetta of Charlotte, NC; a son, Joey Carabetta and partner, Amy Carabetta of Hillsborough, NC; a step daughter, Lisa Whisnant of Granite Falls, NC; a sister, Juanita Sorrells and husband, Melvin of Lexington; a brother, Larry Whiteside and wife, Jan of Daytona, Fl; four grandchildren, Julianna and Emmy Carabetta, and Ian and Lyra Glenn; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends and church family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Mary Irvine, Donna Hughes, and all the nurses that helped care for her, and her ever caring physician, Dr. David Crandall.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Mike Warren officiating.

Those attending the service can gather for interment at 2:00 p.m. in Miller Cemetery, Natural Bridge. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Walton Memorial United Methodist Church, 3015 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
