Retired Assistant CSX General Yardmaster Dies At Age 89

David Henry Hartsook, age 89, of 516 Brussels Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Highland House Nursing Facility.

He was born February 5, 1927 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Willie David and Frances Kirkland Hartsook.

He was a retired Assistant General Yardmaster with CSX Transportation.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, the Men's Bible Study and served the church as a Trustee and Deacon. He was also a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge # 1683 and the United Transportation Union. He also served in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Masil Dodd Hartsook of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Linda Hartsook Rice and her husband, Sherman of Clifton Forge, Cynthia Hartsook Cutshall and her husband, Mark of Jonesbough, Tenn; a son, Stephen Henry Hartsook of Dublin, Va.; two sisters, Catherine Harding of Richmond and Mary Hoke of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Nathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon at Nicely Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the service and at other times at 720 Commercial Ave., Clifton Forge, Va.

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, P. O. Box 121, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
