Warm Springs Native Was Retired Heavy Equipment Operator, Bronze, Purple Heart Awardee

George Thomas Meadows, born George Thomas Webb III, 68, of Warm Springs, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at his home in Bath County.

He was born October 20, 1947 in Warm Springs, Virginia, the son of the late George Thomas Webb II and Myrtle Lee Webb Meadows.

He was raised from the age of 7 by his mother and Walter Lee Meadows.

George was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Department of Public Works Roads and Grounds Division of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, and worked with the Laborers Local 942 in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1974 to 1998.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, receiving a bronze star and a purple heart, while serving in the Vietnam War.

George was a former member of the Bolar Ruitans Club. He was a great storyteller who never knew a stranger. He loved to spend his time hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, June Jordan Meadows of Warm Springs, Virginia; three children: Nathaniel Levi Meadows of Warm Springs, Ruby Ann Blackall and significant other, Cameron Ryder of Warm Springs, Robert Samuel Meadows of Fairbanks, Alaska; two grandchildren, Summer DeLon Blackall, Michael Jacob Blackall; a great grandchild, Sunnie DeLon Cuthriell; father, Walter Lee Meadows; sisters, Mary Alice Meadows and Carolyn Marie Tricoli; numerous nieces and nephews on the Webb side, and several on the Meadows side.

George was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers: Walter Allen Meadows and Thomas Lee Meadows.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 30, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Meadows, Robert Meadows, Paul Grantham, Michael Blackall, Cameron Ryder, Woody Webb, Tim Webb, and Patrick Stone.

The family will receive friends from 6 Ð 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home, Hot Springs, Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bolar Volunteer Fire Department.
