Obituary for William Byron Cummings William Byron Cummings
Reeves Brothers Retiree Was World War II Veteran

William Byron Cummings, 100, of Lexington, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born February 11, 1916 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Joseph Foraker Cummings and Daisey Eveline Reynolds Cummings.

Mr. Cummings served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 175th Infantry.

Byron was a member of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, retired from Reeves Brothers, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his wife of seventy four years, Virginia McCaleb Cummings; daughter, Kathy Cummings Shepard and husband, Roger; son, William Joseph Cummings and wife, Alisa; daughter, Jane Cummings Shelton and husband, Vic; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Skip Hastings officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
