Josephine Thornton Chapman, 87, of 1936 Lee Street, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at her residence.

She was born March 28, 1929 in Monroe County, a daughter of the late Luke and Vianna Harvey Thornton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Chuck" Chapman in 2012 and also by one brother and two sisters.

Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker and was a member of the Covington Fire Department Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Ronald C. Chapman of Covington; her devoted caregiver, Doris Lowe of Covington, a sister, Geraldine Vass of Covington and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating, assisted by the Rev. Chuck Cole.

The interment will follow in Lone Star Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
