Obituary for Robert Michael (Rob) Drewry Robert Michael (Rob) Drewry
Retired DSLCC DEan Of Finance Was Active In His Community

Robert Michael (Rob) Drewry, 77, of 1714 Forest Hill Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital.

He was born on December 24, 1938, in Clifton Forge to Ralph L. and Bessie McMullan Drewry.

Rob was a 1957 graduate of Clifton Forge High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from RPI (now VCU) in June 1964.

After 34 years at Dabney Lancaster Community College, he retired as Dean of Finance and Administrative Services.

In retirement, Rob was an organizing member of the Highlands Community Bank, and served 10 years on its board.

Rob was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees.

During his lifetime, Rob was active in many community efforts. He was an advocate for the consolidation efforts of Clifton Forge, Alleghany County and Covington.

He served on the Clifton Forge city council, and was mayor of Clifton Forge from January 1988 through June 2000. He was a member of the Elks and lifetime member of the Jaycees. He also, served on the DSLCC Foundation Board.

Rob became an avid golfer, and divided much of his tee time between Clifton Forge and Myrtle Beach.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Richard (Dick) L. Drewry; one sister, Betty June Drewry; and daughter in-law Elizabeth (Bitsy) S. Drewry.

Surviving family includes his wife of 53 years, Ann Rudisill Drewry; one son, R. Michael Drewry, Jr. of Staunton, VA; two daughters, Kathryn Drewry Leisure (Charles) of Mechanicsville, VA, and Karen Drewry Shelton of Richmond, VA. Grandchildren include Matthew D. Bragg, Jacob M. Bragg, Christopher T. Bragg, and step-grandson, Charlie E. Leisure, all of Mechanicsville, VA. Also, surviving are four nieces and four nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Central United Methodist Church, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Friday morning one hour prior to the service, as well as following the service, at the church.

The Nicely Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, VA, Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA, or a charity of one's choice.
