Former Clifton Forge Resident Was Mizzy, Inc. Retiree

Cathryn Juanita Mays Dodd, 90, of Lynchburg, Virginia, formally of 602 Nightingale Lane, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away on July 1, 2016 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, VA.

She was the wife of the late Floyd Jacob (Jake) Dodd, Jr.

Cathryn was born on September 18, 1925, the daughter of the late Charles Cleveland Mays, Sr. and Lillie Mae Harris Mays.

She grew up in Clifton Forge and graduated from Clifton Forge High School in 1943. She also graduated from Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, VA.

She was employed at Mizzy, Inc., where she was a clerk in the business office and she retired from there in 1987.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Sue Thrasher and her husband, Randy of Lynchburg, VA; a son, Richard Wayne Dodd and his wife, Dianna of Mocksville, NC; a grandson, Brian Lynn Rogers and his wife, Allison of Greeneville, TN; a granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Dodd; and two great-grandsons, Blake Thrasher Rogers and Brandon Cole Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Lewis Wyant Mays, Charles Cleveland Mays, Jr., and John Alfred Mays, Sr.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge, where she belonged to the Annie Livesey Fellowship.

She was a member of the Red Hats. Her interests were crocheting and other needlework, NASCAR racing, and volunteering at the hospital.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Carrington and Virginia Baptist Hospital Hospice Unit for the wonderful and loving care given Mrs. Dodd.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend W. Pembrook Hall and Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, Va.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggest that memorial tributes in Mrs. Dodd's name take the form of contributions to the Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
