Obituary for Sharon Kay Groves Brookman Sharon Kay Groves Brookman
Maryland Native Was Woodlands Housekeeper

Sharon Kay Groves Brookman, 59, of 515 Rose Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, July 4, 2016, in the Brian Center Nursing Home at Low Moor.

Mrs. Brookman was born November 26, 1956, in Prince Georges County, Maryland, a daughter of the late John William "Jack" Groves and Bertie Wolfe Rose Groves Burgess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, James Burgess, Sr., and her step-mother, Evelyn Carter Orr Groves.

She was employed in the Housekeeping Department of The Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, camping and dancing barefoot.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Rick Lanahan of Clifton Forge; two sons, James Brookman and Robert Brookman and his wife, Whitney, all of Covington; her daughter-in law, Samantha Brookman of Clifton Forge; eleven grandchildren, Michelle Brookman, Tyler Brookman, Montana Cook, India Cook, Carmela Cook, Dallas Cook, Eric Cook, Rick Lanahan, Jr., Chase Lanahan, Scott Lanahan and Emily Lanahan; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Kenny Meadows of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Shelia and George Davis of Pasadena, MD, Sandy and Joe Beall of Covington, and Shelby and Tim Florey of Arbutus, MD; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Pam Groves of Covington and James and Jodi Burgess of Hot Springs; a special cousin/sister, Ruby May of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews and two very close friends, Ryan Carey and Katrina Winston of Clifton Forge.

The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Following the service, her body will be cremated.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service at Arritt Funeral Home.
