Obituary for Ernest David (Skimp) Miller Ernest David (Skimp) Miller
Korean War Veteran Was Mechanic, Owner Of Septic Tank Service

Ernest David (Skimp) Miller, 84, of 4301 Potts Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Miller was born February 13, 1932, in Alleghany County, a son of the late John Henry and Ellen Bowen Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his Wife, Jessie "Birdie" Sizemore Miller, in 2012, and also by one brother, Russell Miller, and one sister, Gloria Bess.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 50th Signal Battalion at Sendai, Japan. After the war, he worked as a mechanic for the T. L. Christian Motor Company in Covington until the business closed. "Skimp" kept the garage and had a repair shop there until 1980, when he moved to the present location on Lexington Street known as Covington Auto Repair.

He was also the owner of Miller's Septic Tank Service since 1969.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Kim Miller, of Covington; his daughter, Judy Miller, of Roanoke; his granddaughter, Jennifer Miller, of Covington and his nephew, Wilbur Bess, of Paint Bank.

Family and friends will gather at the graveside in Lone Star Cemetery Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. David Brown will be the officiating minister.

The family will be at the residence of David and Kim Miller, 4218 Potts Creek Road, to receive friends.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Miller's name be made to the Boiling Springs Fire Department and Rescue Squad; 5407 Potts Creek Road, Covington, VA 24426.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, in in charge of arrangements.
