John Edward Hall, Sr., age 85 of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his residence.

He was born July 30, 1930, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, the son of the late Edith Liptrap and Preston M. Hall, Sr.

John served in the United States Navy and was retired from Hercules.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Elizabeth Hall; a brother, Preston M. "Bum" Hall, Jr. and a special friend, Jessie Pendleton.

He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Williams and husband, Mitchell of Galax and Debra Unroe and husband, Timmy of Clifton Forge; a son, John Edward "Honeybee" Hall, Jr. and his wife, Peggy of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Nancy Higgins of Clifton Forge and Ruth Peters of Millboro Springs; a brother, Bill Hall of West Palm Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Tiffany Withers, Brian Williams, Christopher Noel; three step-grandchildren, Kristin, Heidi, and Daniel Unroe; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Judah and Jovie Withers and Maverick and Daxton Williams; a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
