Alleghany County Public School System Teachers' Aide Dies At Age 64

Cherry Lynn Wrenn Conner, 64 of 3406 Longdale Station Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, July 8, 2016 after a four year private battle with cancer.

Cherry was born December 20, 1951 in Clifton Forge to the late John Henry and Florence Ayers Wrenn.

She worked for the Alleghany County Public School System as a teachers' assistant for 26 years, where she gave her heart to many children, and was currently at Callaghan Elementary School.

She loved camping and was a volunteer for Special Olympics and a member of Sharon Baptist Church.

Cherry is survived by her husband, Delmas Keith Conner; her son, Charlie Conner and wife, Tina, and two granddaughters, Cassie and Gracie Conner, all of Clifton Forge. Also surviving are three sisters, Sue Nicely and husband, Steven of Clifton Forge, JoAnn Mays and husband, Malcom of Peaonia Springs, and Jeannie Williams of Aynor, SC; a brother, Mike Wrenn of Fincastle; a sister-in-law, Barbara Wrenn of Fincastle; many special nieces and nephews; and her beloved poodle, Banjo.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. Interment will take place in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Michael Wrenn, Steven Nicely, Buddy Wrenn, Wyatt Wood, Caleb Haynes, and Adam Wrenn.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Tommy Slusser, 4701 Riverland Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.
