Obituary for Mabel Wood Daugherty Mabel Wood Daugherty
Former J. C. Penney Sales Clerk Dies At Age 104

Mabel Wood Daugherty, 104, of 105 Sherry May St., Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her residence.

She was born June 29, 1912 at Fordwick in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Howard Book Wood and Eva Cole Wood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Coats Daugherty in 1995; three sisters, Frenchie Snead, Gladys Key and Catherine Hilton; three brothers, Howard E. Wood, Emmett W. Wood and Everette G. Wood and one son-in-law, Kenneth S. Rice, Sr.

Mrs. Daugherty was a sales clerk for 29 years at the former J.C. Penney in Covington.

She was a member of the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Little Page Sunday School Class.

Surviving are two daughters, Lelia Fadley and her husband, Lee of Covington and June Rice of Roanoke; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sixteen great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Wood of Covington and Mary Wood of Keyser, WV; a number of nieces and nephews and close friends, Lois and Ryland Brisendine and Dianna and Richard Taylor, all of Covington.

The graveside service will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Fleenor officiating.

The family will receive their friends Friday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 a.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
