William Robert Burks, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

After graduation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, he served his community in banking and was a trusted insurance agent for many.

He enjoyed fishing on the banks of the river, laughing at a good joke, listening to music, and telling stories of life and adventure. His greatest love was his "child bride", Mary Frances Dickinson, whom he married in 1959 and celebrated 56 years of life together before her death in April 2016.

He is survived by son, Bob and wife, Leola; son, Ben and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Kragie, Storm and Sara Burks, Garret Burks and his bride, Rachel Carson, Ryan Burks and Emmy Blacka, Allison Burks, and Chelsie Burks; and a host of other family and friends.

We will celebrate his life and faith at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Buena Vista, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church (Buena Vista, Va.) or The Glebe memory care fund (Daleville, Va.).
