David Wayne Mays, age 57, of 107 Hilltop Circle, Daleville, Virginia, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

David was born October 25, 1958 in Clifton Forge to Carlene Putnam Mays and the late Owen Sidney Mays, Jr.

He was an electrician and painter.

He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, enjoyed listening to rock and roll music, and loved his family.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two aunts, Susie Mays and Mary Hall, and an uncle, James Mays.

He is survived by his mother, Carlene Putnam Mays of Daleville; two sons, Jacob Mays of Long Beach, CA and Joshua Mays and his wife, Elizabeth of Daleville; two brothers, Mark Mays and wife, Ruth of New Cumberland, WV and Jeff Mays of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Rowen Mays and Isaac Mays; four nieces and nephews, Amanda Mays, Michael Mays, Dusty Mays and Mindy Mays; an aunt, Addie Linkswiler; a number of cousins including Keith Hall; and two good friends, Logan Terry and Jennifer Terry.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Doug Moore officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
