Clifton Forge Native Dies At Age 94

Jeanette (Jean) Griffith Blanck, age 94, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Monday, August 22, 2016.

She was born on February 22, 1922 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late John Mayze and Minnie Myrtle Williams.

She is survived by a daughter and son in law, Virginia Catherine and Rolf Torno, of Hamburg, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Charles and Michele Blanck Jr. of Pleasantville, NY; two sisters-in law, Joann Williams of Covington, VA and Dorothy Blanck of Hinesburg, VT; seven grandchildren, Audrey (Larry) Goble, Krista (David) Canole, Bonnie Londo, Erik (Christina) Torno, Sara JoJean (Rev. Seth) Bisheimer, Jordon Blanck, Joelle (Joshua) Dyke; and nine great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Gray Goble, Shawn Londo, Jaidyn, Karys, Judah, Selah, and Willow Bisheimer, and Ophelia Torno; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Catherine Williams and Annie Margaret Boggs, along with four brothers, Orr Lee Williams, John Mayze Williams, Jr., George Edwin Williams and Dwight Campbell Williams Sr. Her beloved husband, Charles Norman Blanck, Sr. also preceded her in death in 2002.

Jean grew up and attended school in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and met her husband of 54 years at Portsmouth, Virginia, while working in the Western Union Office of the Naval Ship Yards.

She was a longtime resident of Eden, NY and upon her husband's retirement, spent the last years of her life in Clifton Forge, VA. She and her husband were active members of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, where they were always involved together.

Jean loved serving by cooking meals, arranging altar flowers and helping out wherever there was a need. Jean was best known for living out her faith by loving and serving her God and loving her family and friends. She was most known in her church and neighborhood by her gifts of hospitality and her generosity in giving of her time volunteering as a docent at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center.

Jean Griffith Blanck is loved deeply by her family and friends and will be missed by them all.

Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Nicely Funeral Home, 405 Alleghany St., Clifton Forge, VA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Clifton Forge Baptist Church, 511 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, Virginia.

An interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Salvation Army, directing the assistance to the recent White Sulphur Springs and W.VA. flood victims c/o The Salvation Army National Headquarters, 615 Slaters Lane, P. O. Box 269, Alexandria, VA 22313.
